A beautiful framed up
example of the 49" span Thermic 50 from Jasco built
by Martin Powell.
|
Our kit contains freshly redrawn
CAD plans to build the original classic Thermic 50
towline glider. This glider is fully SAM qualified
and builds out to the original weight but in half
the time with the self-jigging notched trailing
edges already pre- shaped to make the curved
sections of the wing. With its dual spar design
(unlike the latter Jetco Thermic 50) this one can
stand up to harder launches and light lift sloping
conditions as well.

Jasco Thermic 50-X
classic Pod and Boom designed to accept RC gear or
build it for towline competition in SAM
events.

This is probably the most
popular and remembered of Frank Zaic's designs,
small, lightweight, compact and with its built up
bulkhead and stringer pod, ready for micro radio
installation without major modification.
Photos and build courtesy of
Fred Guilfoyle.
|
Like the Thermic 50 above, the 50-X
uses the same wing planform with dual spars and is
designed to be built over the original plans using
our laser cut parts. Includes a machined hardwood
boom and all parts laser cut including pre-cut tip
blocks and spars with dihedral angles, and all of
the wing and tail trailing edge curves with rib
notches pre-cut plus 1/32" ply dihedral braces.
This provides an extremely fast and accurate build
and a very tight and strong airframe at the
original 3-4 oz. all up weight prior to radio
installation!!!

Obviously the model that
inspired Dave Thornburg to design the Bird of Time
which has inspired so many copies based upon the
classic lines of Frank Zaic.

A larger design for light to
moderate slope lift and more versatile thermaling
ability. This kit also builds over the original
plans and with the addition of scrap balsa block
and planks can be built to the original design or
using our laser cut balsa bulkheads the pod has
plenty of room for lightweight RC gear. We've
included the tails, trailing edges, wing and
horizontal stab curved tips and blocks, even the
spars pre-cut for length and dihedral joiner angle
from hard balsa. And yes, hand selected balsa and
the tailboom tapered and ready for installation
from high quality fir.

11 sheets of high quality
plywood and balsa parts and now shipping with the
bent wire landing gear wires or available optional
hardware packages. Very little material is needed
to complete these kits.
|
Often claimed to be one of the
easiest to build and best-flying trainers ever
developed, I happen to agree that this model has
everything aerodynamically to make it a sure winner
and great flyer whether with nitro or
e-power.

Jim Wagoner offered once
again to assist with the beta testing of the first
cut kit of the new Taylorcraft 54" parkflier and
you will be able to witness his excellent modeling
skills and coments live as the build progresses on
RC Groups.

You will need very little balsa,
spruce and wire to complete this partial kit -
4 qty. 1/8" sq.
2 qty. 1/8" x 3/8"
2 qty. 3/16" x 3/8"
2 qty. 1/8" x 1/4"
4 qty. 1/16" x 1/8"
1 pair 2-1/4" tires
1 piece .030" wire
It's recommended that you replace
the called for balsa spars with spruce and use a
two wire landing gear system to take the added
landing loads of radio and motor installation. Plus
you will need several small bits of 1/16" hard
balsa sheet to mount servos and and some soft sheet
to fill the bottom of the cabin and around the cowl
to strengthen these areas.
You may choose to craft a set of
whell pants for your Taylorcraft too for that
vintage look!

Bill Rosman is a craftsman
of the first degree and his effort to convert
hisTMRC Aeronca to a fully cowled engine
compartment may soon benefit us all the next time
we build this classic for power other than rubber.
Can't wait to see this one flying... thanks
Bill!

Aeronca K 54" A
classic taildragger just right for and electric RC
parkflier
|
|
|
NOW
SHIPPING!
The Aeronca K shares many of
the same parts with the Aeronca Chief in 1:8 scale
above but this one has the most remarkable details
to engine and exhaust, instruments and seats and
tail and main gear I've ever seen in a $1.00
kit.
|
Requirements to complete kit are
the same as the Aeronca Chief although much more
detail is given for finishing this model and more
parts will be required to fabricate scale seats,
instruments, control yokes and pedals etc.

FEBRUARY 08!
The Sailwing 50 would make a
perfect light lift sloper with its elegant good
looks, simple yet robust construction and
lightweight airframe.
|
This wing is reminiscent of at
least a couple of high performance radio control
flying wings being produced today that doubtless
owe a part of their heritage to the early work of
Frank Zaic. This one is beautiful and we would love
to see someone build it for lightweight RC gear and
throw it off a gentle slope!

at 36" span.

Both a Jasco and more common Jetco
version of the Trooper were produced by the Zaic's.
I prefer the more classic lines and tail of the
earlier version from Jasco and think you will too.
A classic towline glider which qualifies for SAM
and Nostalgia rules.

Jasco Thermic C

Both a Jasco and more common Jetco
version of the Thermic C were also produced by the
Zaic's. This one again is the earlier model with
the eliptical wing tips and pod and boom
construction similar to its sister ships the
Thermic 50-X and 72 above. A classic towline glider
which qualifies for SAM and Nostalgia rules.
